Poker Profiles: Humberto Brenes

Humberto Brenes is the famous head of Costa Rican brothers that invaded the Poker world. He was born, bred, and is currently settled down in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Humberto's Latin charm coupled with his Poker skill and a fashionable sense of style endeared him to poker fans everywhere. To date, he has collected two World Series of Poker bracelets, several final table finishes at the World Poker Tour, and a total of $5,200,000 cash. That is not at all surprising considering the talent and experience that Humberto came with when he showed up for high stake play.

Humberto got an early introduction to the world of gambling. He started playing cards at age seven but proceeded to take on a full career after making a successful take on Baccarat and Craps. Choosing to play Poker professionally as a source of livelihood is not at all a bad choice for Humberto. In fact, he was unsure if he would ever earn as much as he did if he never got an opportunity to go pro. Through his Poker earnings, he was able to keep his family comfortable enough. He was also able to put up businesses in his home country to add to the family's wealth.

Humberto is indeed one of the more intelligent players around. He is always armed with an impressive tactic that almost always make him a shoe-in for the title. He joined tournaments after tournaments and enjoyed cash ins from some, if not most, of them. Aside from the WSOP and WPT, Humberto also lends his Poker skill to other high stake tournaments. He is also part of PokerStars.com, playing side-by-side other Poker greats.

One of the keys to Humberto's successful career is his humble attitude. He knows that there are many other great players around. He knows that if he will choose to rest on his laurels right now, he will be left behind. He knows that talent could be a good arm at the Poker table but being able to use it wisely is a totally different thing. As a result, Humberto continues to hone his skills. He continues to take notes of how the players he love watching were able to invest the amount of concentration needed to take a win. T.J. Cloutier, Berry Johnston, and Phil Hellmuth are among the players he love watching and playing with at the Poker table. For him, those three defines what a true Poker professional is.
